SAN ANTONIO – Greater San Antonio area McDonald’s is providing free breakfast for students in grades 3-8 and their teachers Tuesday in preparation of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness Test.

"As local owners, we understand how stressful STAAR testing can be for not only students, but also the teachers," said Jesse Guajardo, McDonald’s owner. "We wanted to play a role in bringing out the best in our students by offering a wholesome breakfast to assist with a good morning."

According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation, almost 50 percent of U.S. children are not eating breakfast every day. Research shows that children who eat breakfast demonstrate improvements in math, reading and standardized test scores.

The items offered for this breakfast are all 300 calories or less, making them a filling, nutritious option and registered dietitian approved.

Coupons are not necessary for the free breakfast. Any child from third to eighth grade who dines in at a participating McDonald’s restaurant between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Tuesday with their parent or guardian will receive their choice of an Egg White Delight McMuffin Sandwich or Fruit and Maple Oatmeal, apple slices, and their choice of 1 percent low-fat milk or a Minute Maid Apple Juice Box.

Teachers are also being extended the free breakfast offer with proof of a valid teacher identification card.

This free breakfast is also being offered to students in the Austin, Dallas, Houston and Waco areas.
