CPS Energy marks Casa Verde milestone

Utility program weatherizes 15,000 homes

SAN ANTONIO – CPS Energy celebrated a milestone Tuesday when it weatherized its 15,000th home under its Casa Verde program.

The Casa Verde program helps low-income customers by making their homes more energy efficient. Eligible applicants qualify for weatherization improvements like insulation, weather stripping, caulking, LED lighting and solar screens. The improvements help customers save about $400 in energy costs.

"This is a great program," Crystal Granato, who qualified for the program, said. "I mean, for them to go into your home. They're nice and courteous. They're helping you save money, and not many places do that."

The Casa Verde program started in 2009 and has provided about $5.6 million in savings to customers.
