Girl, 5, dies nearly a week after shooting; Man charged with capital murder

Ana Garza shot while sleeping; Another shooting victim remains on life support

SAN ANTONIO – A 5-year-old girl who was shot in the head while sleeping died early Wednesday afternoon, family members and the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office said.

Ana Garza died at 12:26 p.m. at University Hospital. She had been on life support since she was shot in a front room around 11:30 p.m. on June 1 in the 800 block of Pecan Valley Drive on the city's East Side.

Carlos Aguilar was also wounded in the shooting and is on life support at San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Police said they believe the gunfire erupted when two men backed their car into another vehicle parked in a driveway. The two men argued with the homeowner before firing several times on the home. One of the men broke out the front window and crawled into the house before unlocking the front door and fleeing, police said.

About an hour after the shooting, police spotted a vehicle matching the description and a chase ensued, police said. The chase ended a short time later in the the 4000 block of Briarglen when the car crashed. Two men were caught and questioned.

Police arrested Murjan Issack Abdi, 19, and was charged Wednesday with capital murder, police said.

Police are still looking for three men, including Abdi Abdi (pictured, below), who has identified as a A person of interest, police said.
