Well-dressed man sought in Walmart thefts in Floresville, SA

Man caught on camera has stolen items from same store 10 times, police say

SAN ANTONIO – Floresville police hope that by shopping around surveillance photos, they'll learn more about a man who they believe has been stealing from several Walmart stores.

Detective George Ortiz said the man has targeted the Floresville store about 10 times. He also stole items from at least two locations in San Antonio, he said.

"This gentleman doesn't look like a thug or somebody that you would look twice. I mean, he's dressed respectable," Ortiz said.

In some of the surveillance videos, the well-dressed man is wearing glasses or a baseball cap while in others he's not. Even though he often changes his look, investigators said he always uses the same technique.

"He fills up his cart with tents, fuel injector batteries, whatever he can get his hands on and just walks out the door," Ortiz said.

Police believe most of the items taken are resold at area flea markets.

They said the thief sometimes works with a female accomplice. He usually strikes in the middle of the day, sometimes getting in and out of the store without being noticed, police said.

"During the day, it's really easy for them to be unseen because all the employees are busy, you know, stocking, doing other things," Ortiz said.

He said workers with Walmart's loss prevention department suspect the man in the photos may be from the Schertz area.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call the Wilson County Crime Stoppers hotline at 830-393-INFO (4636).
