SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Pets Alive and the Animal Defense League have swapped spaces. As KSAT 12 reported last week, SA Pets Alive is now at the PetSmart Adoption Center in Windcrest. On Friday, the Animal Defense League opened its doors at the Paul Jolly Center. Both organizations are continuing their mission to rescue San Antonio’s homeless pets.
SA Pets Alive lost its lease at the Paul Jolly Center in September and moved into its new home.
"It was divine intervention, we'll call it, because at the same time, we had the opportunity to talk to PetSmart Charities,” said Maureen O’Nell, SA Pets Alive executive director.
The space is smaller, but PetSmart Charities has donated funds to help with first-year operating costs and donated a new mobile adoption unit to SA Pets Alive, all in hopes of bringing more pets and people together.
"This is just an excellent opportunity for us to help get them into a new home. Both San Antonio Pets Alive … and the mobile adoption unit is something that is going to help bring that message out into the community,” said Steve Kaufman, manager of the PetSmart Charities Center of Excellence.
As SA Pets Alive gets settled into its new home at the PetSmart Adoption Center, the Animal Defense League is settling into its second home at the Paul Jolly Center.
The expansion allows the Animal Defense League to increase its outreach programs, including training and spay and neuter awareness, all while working to push forward the overall mission to save homeless pets and place them in permanent homes.
"It’s really exciting for us to take on this responsibility. We’re committing to rescuing thousands more each year, and this facility with its central location beautiful landscaping, it’s really going to give us this premier adoption facility to achieve the goals we have set out,” said Brad Wright, Animal Defense League marketing and public relations manager.”
