Shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 wounded on SW Side

Gunman gets away in shooting reported in 5400 block of Stoneybrook Drive

SAN ANTONIO – One man was killed and another man was wounded in a shooting early Thursday on the city's Southwest Side.

When police arrived around 4 a.m. at a home in the 5400 block of Stoneybrook Drive, police found a 22-year-old man with a gunshot wound on his hand. He was taken to University Hospital.

The person who reported the shooting said that the incident happened at a home next door. When police went to investigate, they found a man in his early 20s lying on the floor with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The man who survived the shooting gave officers a vague description of the shooter, police said.

Police spokesman Officer Doug Greene said the victim told officers the gunman was drunk and got into an argument with the two men. The gunman shot the men and fled the scene.

Neighbors told KSAT 12 News reporter Ashly Custer that they are not surprised about the shooting.

Greene said police have been to the home before.

"We do believe there may have been some illegal activity going on at this house," Greene said. "We're looking at other things other than just the homicide going on here. (I) can't go into too much detail about that yet."

Officers questioned three other people in the home. They told officers that they were asleep and didn't witness the shooting, Greene said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (7867).
