After daughter's North Side murder, tormented mother pleads for information

Maria Rodriguez found dead Thursday; killer still on run

SAN ANTONIO – A gruesome murder has terrified a community and torn a family to pieces. Maria Rodriguez was found dead Thursday, but it wasn't until the following Tuesday that details of what happened to her were made public.

Rodriguez's mother broke down, talking about what happened to her daughter.

"Maria was an outgoing person and very loving and very compassionate," said her mother Martha Rodriguez. "Who would do that?"

Maria Rodriguez was found dead Thursday inside an apartment where she was staying in the Jackson Square apartment complex on Jackson Keller Road. San Antonio police are still trying to figure out how she was killed, but believe choking or a sharp object may have played a role.

"I feel like I should have been there and maybe I could have prevented that. I'm angry at this person, whoever did this, may God have mercy on their soul," Martha Rodriguez said.

She and detectives still have many questions.

"If you know anything, if you've seen or heard, please come forward. I beg you. Think if it would have been your child or your grandchild. I'm asking for help. Please help me. Help me find justice," Martha Rodriguez said.

With police still looking for answers, several neighbors at the apartment complex where the murder happened said they're moving out. They're afraid to be there. Anyone with information about what happened to Maria Rodriguez can make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at (210) 224-7869.
