SAN ANTONIO – A 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was shot in the face Tuesday night on the city's North Side, police said.
The victim told police that he was walking to the store around 7 p.m., when someone in a white newer-model BMW opened fire on him at the Tuscany Park Apartments in the 1100 block of Patricia Drive.
"The driver rolled down the window, pointed a handgun at the victim, fired once, and struck the victim in the face," San Antonio police Officer Doug Greene said. "It's amazing that he is still alive."
A friend of the victim took him to Baptist Emergency Hospital, but he was taken to University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Greene said it took detectives several hours to figure out where the teen was shot.
He said detectives believe that there is more to the story than what the teenager initially told them and hope to talk with him more after he gets out of surgery.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the San Antonio Police homicide unit at 210-207-7635.
