Man arrested, charged with June 2016 homicide

Xavier Johnson, 22, charged with murder

SAN ANTONIO – Police have arrested a man they said is responsible for killing Christopher Dotson in June 2016.

Xavier Johnson, 22, was arrested Tuesday.

San Antonio police said they spent the past six months investigating the homicide and all the evidence pointed to Johnson.

While being led away by police, Johnson said, “I love y'all and I'm innocent. Put God first. Everything is going to be alright.”

Dotson was found fatally shot in the middle of an East Side street. Investigators said the violence stemmed from a drug deal.

Johnson was picked up by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, but not before he tried to run.

“This was at the height of the violence that was going on last year. So it's very satisfying to solve this case and put this guy in jail. I know Mr. Dotson recently had a birthday,” Sgt. Jesse Salame said.

Johnson is also the suspect in another shooting that took place in September.
