Jurors reach guilty verdict on 48 counts in child porn trial against former H-E-B executive

Prosecutors call sex case against John Morgan Campbell ‘unsettling'

SAN ANTONIOUPDATE: The jury on Wednesday found John Campbell guilty on 48 of the 53 counts against him.

In closing arguments on Wednesday, prosecutors in the trial of John Morgan Campbell, 66, repeated an apology that they made to the jury at the trial’s outset last week.

“What you have seen and heard and what has been presented to you is disturbing, disgusting and unsettling,” prosecutor Josh Somers said.

He was referring to nude, sexually explicit photographs of young boys.

The images were discovered on Campbell’s electronic devices at his H-E-B corporate office in early 2014.

Campbell, who was a vice president with the grocery store chain, was terminated immediately. His lawyer argued his client had, by his own admission, “done something stupid.”

But defense attorney Charles Baird insisted that prosecutors had fallen short of presenting a viable case of promotion and possession of child pornography as alleged in the indictment.
