Local Sears to close after parent company files for bankruptcy

Sears, Kmart closing 142 underperforming stores

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio Sears is among 142 Sears and Kmart stores that will close after their parent company filed for bankruptcy Monday.

The Sears location at Ingram Park Mall at 6301 NW Loop 410 will close in the near future. According to a news release, stores will remain open through the holidays.

CNN reported that liquidation at the 142 stores will begin "within two weeks."

According to a news release, the parent company opted to shudder doors at 142 of its unprofitable stores.

It's unclear when the Ingram Park Mall location will close. 

Sears Holdings chairman Edward Lampert said in a news release that stores will remain open for business "as we look toward the holiday season."  However, a news release stated that the 142 unprofitable stores would close "near the end of the year."
