Man, 58, arrested after officers find his mother's decomposing body: SAPD

Lindsey Turiano charged with murder in death of Norma Turiano Woods

SAN ANTONIO – A 58-year-old man is facing a murder charge in connection with the death of his elderly mother, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

San Antonio police took Lindsey Turiano into custody Wednesday after they say he made statements to hospital staff about the murder of his 89-year-old mother, Norma Turiano Woods.

Jennifer Rodriguez, a spokesperson with SAPD, said Woods' daughter had called the police July 14 saying she had not heard from her mother in several days and was concerned about Woods' well-being.

When San Antonio police arrived at Woods' Southwest Side home – which she shared with Turiano – in the 5900 block of Stoneybrook Drive, Rodriguez said officers smelled a foul odor coming from the home and saw that a front window had been broken.

After forcing their way into the home, officers found Woods dead in a room and her son, Turiano, unconscious in the kitchen, according to police.

Police said they believe Woods had been dead in the home for some time.

Turiano, who police said was unable to communicate with officers that day, was taken to the hospital. He remained hospitalized until recently making statements about his mother's murder.

"(Turiano) was brought in for questioning (and) enough probable cause was found. (He) was subsequently charged with murder," Rodriguez said.

While no motive was provided by police, Rodriguez said investigators have determined Woods died of "homicidal violence."

Online jail records show Turiano has a criminal history that is more than three decades long.

Turiano has been previously arrested three times for driving while intoxicated and criminal trespassing, according to online records.
