SAN ANTONIO – A former Judson High School English teacher and church group leader was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday.
When Jared Anderson, 29, was arrested in March of 2016 he admitted that he hosted sex parties for teenage boys. The victims, seven in all, said that during the parties, Anderson and the teens would engage in sex acts.

All of the victims were members of a church where Anderson served as a group leader.
Ian Vassiloras, a counselor at the church, testified Monday during the sentencing hearing.
“He wanted to be accepted by them and so he was willing to do whatever it took,” Vassiloras testified.

He said Anderson has been undergoing intense counseling since his arrest and was making progress.
“He’s human,” he testified. “There might be some little tidbits popping up, but it will never lead him down this path again.”
Anderson’s lawyer Eddie Garcia asked Judge Steve Hilbig for deferred adjudication, which is a form of probation.
Prosecutors argued that Anderson was a “horrible” candidate for probation.

The judge refused Garcia’s request.
“My only recourse is to give you 10 years or give you probation,” Hilbig said. “And frankly, sir, I don’t believe you deserve deferred adjudication.”
