SAN ANTONIO – A cat was killed and two dogs were pulled from a burning home on the city’s Northwest Side on Wednesday afternoon, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
The fire happened around 4:40 p.m. in the 5500 block of Slattery, near Wurzbach Road.

A passerby noticed smoke coming from the back of the home and notified the fire department. The homeowners were not home at the time of the fire.
At least 18 fire crews arrived and fought the flames, which started in the back of the home. Firefighters were able to get control of the flames in roughly 20 minutes.
Neighbors helped rescue a dog from the home and another dog was pulled out by firefighters, who then administered oxygen to it. Both are expected to recover.
However, one cat died in the fire, according to SAFD. No other injuries were reported.
Damages to the home are estimated between $75,000 to $80,000, but that amount could increase, according to firefighters.
The cause of the fire is unknown and the investigation continues.
