SAN ANTONIO – A man was found dead after a fire at a North Side home, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
The fire was reported around 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 3700 block of Chartwell Drive.
SAFD originally told KSAT a barricaded suspect was inside the home as firefighters worked on the fire, but officials at the scene were unable to confirm if the man was barricaded. Around 9:35 p.m., SAFD said he was found dead inside.
Three dogs were safely removed from the home, officials said, and one firefighter suffered from heat exhaustion. No other injuries were reported.
The home sustained significant damage, officials said. A nearby home also suffered minor damage.
Officials said there were multiple calls made to the house on Monday.
The fire is believed to have started in the garage, officials said, although the cause is unclear.
Additional information was not immediately available.
