Police identify man accused of killing friend who tried to stop him from driving drunk

Juan Jose Ortega, 23, killed Guy Larue, 25, police say

SAN ANTONIO – Police say a 25-year-old man was stabbed to death Sunday morning after he tried to stop his friend from driving home drunk.

The Bexar County medical examiner identified Guy Larue as the individual police say was stabbed by his friend, Juan Jose Ortega.

Ortega is charged with murder and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Police said Ortega and Larue stayed up following a baby shower in the 1000 block of Patton Boulevard.

Police said when Ortega attempted to leave around 5:30 a.m., Larue tried to stop him from driving home. A fight ensued and Ortega stabbed Larue. A preliminary report states that Ortega began pounding on the door of the home to get Larue's family to call 911.

Authorities found Larue lying in the street with a stab wound to the neck. He was taken to University Hospital, where he died, according to police.

Family and friends said they were at a loss for words Sunday, confirming that Larue and Ortega were lifelong friends.
