Man arrested in connection with 2 ‘Texas Killing Fields’ murders after 40+ years, report says

James Elmore, 61, was booked into the Galveston County Jail, according to KPRC

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas – After more than 40 years, authorities arrested a man in connection with two deaths related to the “Texas Killing Fields,” according to a report from KPRC, KSAT’s sister station in Houston.

James Elmore, 61, was booked Tuesday into the Galveston County Jail on charges of manslaughter and evidence tampering related to the deaths of Laura Miller and Audrey Cook, KPRC reported.

Miller and Cook were found dead in an abandoned oil field in League City, Texas, long known as the Texas Killing Fields, according to KPRC.

Elmore is accused of helping Clyde Edwin Hedrick, a longtime suspect in the cases, hide Miller and Cook’s remains, KPRC reported.

Hedrick, who maintained his innocence in an August 2024 interview with KPRC, died last week as prosecutors were preparing murder charges.

Miller’s father told KPRC that Elmore reached out four years ago and met with him dozens of times, sharing details Miller says were never made public.
