Steele beat Madison last week behind Xavier Martin’s and Brenden Brady’s big rushing games. Expect another nail-biting, high quality game here.
Brennan vs. Judson:
Judson looks to avoid a let down after last week’s big road win when they host the Brennan Bears.
The Rockets, who soared up to No. 4 in the latest 6A poll, were powered by Julon Williams’ 329 yards of total offense and Mi’kel Jackson’s 111 rushing yards.
Brennan battled back against Reagan last week, but lost on a late game field goal, 13-10.
The Bears will need another big game from Jahmyl Jeter to topple Judson on the road.
Sam Houston vs. Somerset:
The Hurricanes beat Holmes last week while Somerset squeaked by Brackenridge to set up this intriguing matchup.
Somerset’s QB/WR combo of Zadock Dinkelmann and Martin Ramos were nearly unstoppable last week against Brack as was Sam Houston’s Leontrey Thomas, who scored three total touchdowns in the win over the Huskies.
Clemens vs. MacArthur:
Both teams feature top area quarterbacks and both are looking to bounce back after season opening losses.
Clemens QB Frank Harris was simply unstoppable last week against Round Rock, amassing nearly 400 yards of total offense and five total touchdowns.
Mac’s Tyler Vitt will look to breakout this week after being somewhat held in check by O’Connor’s stout defense. This should be a fun, high-scoring affair at Heroes Stadium.
McCollum vs. Central Catholic:
The Cowboys got off to a strong start with a win over South San while Central Catholic beat Kennedy at home.
McCollum’s Jonathan Handy had a huge game, rushing for nearly 200 yards and five touchdowns.
The Buttons defense and running game were solid last week. That effort will be needed again to slow down Handy.
Cuero vs. Yoakum:
Yoakum-Cuero is not only a rivalry game, but one of the best small school matchups in the state.
Cuero is ranked No. 8 in this week’s 4A state poll while Yoakum features a pair of junior twins, Josh and Jordan Moore, who are some of the most talented and highly recruited players in Texas.
Edison vs Floresville:
The Golden Bears stormed back to beat Pleasanton 49-46 in a wild shootout last week.
Matthew Garcia rushed for 251 yards and five touchdowns to lead Edison to the come from behind victory.
Floresville used solid special teams and defense to beat Highlands. Colton Payne scored a pair of touchdowns including one on a long punt return.
Brandeis vs Alamo Heights:
Intriguing matchup between two quality area teams. The Broncos had several key mistakes and were their own worst enemy in a close loss to Johnson last Saturday, but they still had a chance to win late.
Alamo Heights is coming off a solid win against New Braunfels where Will Chaney, another one of the top quarterbacks in the area, threw for 236 yards and a touchdown.
