Cal-Washington game canceled after player's positive test
California doesnโt have the minimum number of scholarship players available for the game as a result of the positive test and the need for other players to isolate under contact tracing protocols, the Pac-12 said in a statement Thursday. Wilcox had said Wednesday night that the game was in jeopardy because of the large number of players needing contact tracing. The school said the player with a positive test is asymptomatic. This marked the first positive test on Calโs football team since practices began last month. This is the fourth time a Tulsa game has been postponed or canceled because of COVID cases.

The players sent an email to Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott late Friday accusing him of not taking the issues they have raised seriously enough. Leaders of the group have said their movement has more than 400 players from around the conference supporting it. When the players went public with their demands last Sunday, they reached out to the Pac-12 and requested daily meetings with conference officials. NEW YORK The Detroit Tigers selected Arizona State slugger Spencer Torkelson with the No. 1 pick Wednesday night in the Major League Baseball amateur draft. The baseball-bashing Torkelson played first base in college, but was announced as a third baseman by Commissioner Rob Manfred. After having the majors worst record last season, Detroit opened the draft for the second time in three years. This years draft was originally scheduled to be held for the first time in Omaha, Nebraska, as a lead-in to the College World Series.
