A San Antonio man told investigators he was innocent before Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies took him into custody Monday in connection with setting a house on fire last year.

The unincorporated portions of Bexar County saw a 31% increase in firework-related incidents compared to previous New Year’s celebrations, according to a county news release.

Several Bexar County emergency agencies and Judge Peter Sakai are hosting a press conference Wednesday to discuss preparations for forecasted “critical fire weather conditions,” according to a county news release.

The burn ban went into effect on Tuesday, Aug. 12, after hundreds of acres went up in smoke a week earlier in the Silver Mountain Fire in south Bexar County.

Home never felt as good as it does now for some south Bexar County residents who evacuated due to a large grassfire on Tuesday.

When the Bexar County Commissioners Court reconvenes next week, county fire officials said Wednesday that they will recommend a burn ban after hundreds of acres went up in smoke.
