Maciel's 5 TDs lead Lanier over Highlands
Lanier rolled out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter even before Highlands had a chance to get the ball. Highlands then fumbled the ensuing kickoff, with Lanier’s Ezequail Garcia Ramirez recovering the loose ball at the Highlands 30-yard line. Guerra’s second touchdown catch gave Lanier its largest lead of the game, 28-0, with 1:53 before halftime. Lanier responded to the Highlands’ score by going on a seven-play, 62-yard scoring drive that was capped by Maciel’s game-clinching 21-yard touchdown run at 4:03 in the third quarter, putting the Voks up 35-12. Highlands will play Sam Houston in a District 13-5A Division 1 seeding game, with playoff implications, Saturday at 2 p.m. at Alamo Stadium.

Halfway through its District 13-5A Division I game against Burbank, Highlands was its own worst enemy. They outscored Burbank (1-2, 1-2) by 12 points after halftime for a 40-22 victory on Nov. 13 at Alamo Stadium. “Chris Castillo and (offensive coordinator) Lyle Long have (Highlands) rolling,” Burbank coach Wendell Harris said. Southwest 58, Laredo Martin 0The Dragons (2-6, 2-2) won their second-consecutive District 14-5A Division 1 game, blanking Laredo Martin (1-2, 1-2) on Nov. 13 at Southwest. Sophomore Hector Elizondo (94 yards, 7 carries) and Andre Mitchell (70 yards, 9 carries) were the Dragons’ leading rushers and logged one touchdown apiece.
