The summer months are the best time to be on the lookout for Type 1 diabetes signs and symptoms in children, according to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

At 15, 14, and 12 years old, three local Type 1 diabetes patients won't let age stop them from fighting for change. They headed to the nation's capitol to ask lawmakers to lower insulin costs and fund new technology for patients.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there is a 30% increase in Type 1 diabetes diagnoses in the United States and those cases are being seen more among the youth.
