NFL wild-card games show potential for alternate broadcasts
The positive reviews for Nickelodeon's kids-focused broadcast of last Sunday's NFL playoff game showed the potential of alternate broadcasts of sporting events. The Nickelodeon presentation not only provided a template on doing alternate broadcasts. CBS and Nickelodeon weren't the only ones to use multiple networks during Sunday's playoff games. What also made the Nickelodeon broadcast successful is that appealed to parents and kids. Some alternate broadcasts have fallen short because the on-field action was often ignored.

Watching an NFL playoff game might not be a typical family activity in your house, but CBS and Nickelodeon have unveiled a plan to try and change that -- at least for one game this Sunday. While CBS will televise the game and broadcast it in the traditional sense, Nickelodeon will also televise the game, but with more unconventional twists in an effort to appeal to kids. The show will feature a 10-year-old SpongeBob and his friends as they have various fun at a summer camp. People can also go to NFLNickPlay.com for content leading up to and during the game. Examples of content include educating kids on football basics and engaging kids with quizzes, polls, facts, videos and information galleries.
Nickelodeon presents kid-focused wild card game this weekend
On Sunday, CBS Sports and Nickelodeon will team up to present a wild card game like no other. The game will air on Nickelodeon and feature a โslime-filled telecastโ tailored for family-fun. SpongeBob, Slime, and Googly Eyes, @NFLonCBS and @Nickelodeon will present the NFL like youโve NEVER seen it before on Wild Card Weekend. โThe game airing on CBS will be streamed on CBS and NFL digital properties across devices, and on mobile via the participating teamsโ mobile properties, and Yahoo Sports and other Verizon Media mobile properties,โ the company said in a statement. Additionally, participants will be able to enter a sweepstakes for the chance to win an exclusive game ball signed by a Wild Card player, along with other exclusive prize packs.
Ren, Stimpy to make TV comeback in new Comedy Central show
LOS ANGELES The brazen humor of The Ren & Stimpy Show will be revisited in a new Comedy Central version of the animated series. The original program that was a hit for Nickelodeon will be reimagined in partnership with Nickelodeon Animation Studio, Comedy Central said Wednesday. Ren, a psychologically challenged Chihuahua, and Stimpy, less intelligent than your average cat, were created by John Kricfalusi and debuted on Nickelodon in 1991. The Ren & Stimpy Show drew criticism from observers who deemed it unsuitable for children, citing its crass jokes and sexual innuendo. On Comedy Central, the show will join other adult-animation series including South Park and a revamped version of Beavis and Butt-Head, the channel said.

James Corden to Make Children's Book 'Real Pigeons Fight Crime' Into Nickelodeon Movie and TV Series
On Tuesday, Nickelodeon announced that it has inked a multi-platform deal with Fulwell 73, the production company headed up by Ben Winston and the 41-year-old Late Late Show host. Corden and Winston will produce both an animated movie and an animated TV series based off of the children's book Real Pigeons Fight Crime, which was first published in 2018. Written by Andrew McDonald and illustrated by Ben Wood, Real Pigeons Fight Crime reveals the secret life of crime-busting pigeons who set out to keep a town safe. "Real Pigeons Fight Crime is about a secret squad of crime-fighting pigeons, with high stakes and true hilarity making it a perfect fit for our audience," added Ramsey Naito, Executive Vice President of Nickelodeon Animation Production and Development.
