In Texas, more than 2 million remained under boil water notices Wednesday and 40 public water systems are โnonoperational,โ affecting 25,000 people, state officials said. At the height of the problems last week, at least 7 million Texans were told to boil their water. AdโThe wealthy taxpayers left, so they left Jackson to suffer,โ the retired public works department employee said. The persistent freezing temperatures exposed problems at pumping stations and other parts of the system, some of which dates to the 1930s.
Texas megachurch pastor sent to prison for fraud scheme

Kirbyjon H. Caldwell, 67, was sentenced Wednesday in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he and his co-defendant, Gregory A. Smith, were indicted in 2018. Caldwell, who in March pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, was the senior pastor of Houston's Windsor Village United Methodist Church, which has about 14,000 members. Caldwell used about $900,000 he received from the scheme to maintain his lifestyle and pay down credit cards and mortgages, according to the Justice Department.
Shooting at Louisiana hospital prompts manhunt
(AP) A man was shot and wounded at a Louisiana hospital Wednesday morning in what police called an active shooter situation. Shreveport police said SWAT and hostage negotiation teams made their way to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport - St. Mary Medical Center around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. One man was shot in the leg, police spokeswoman Sgt. Authorities said they are searching for Taniel Cole, 41, who is considered armed and dangerous. Its unclear whether Cole is still at the hospital.
