VITA San Antonio officially kicked off its free tax return preparation season on Wednesday during a media briefing at Family Service Presa Community Center.

Looking for a place to get taxes done? One service is available for free to those who earn $65,000 or less.

If IRS forms, tax jargon, and number-crunching make your head spin, there may be help available through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.

CAST Tech High School students who are IRS-certified will provide free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance services for members of the community who make $65,000 or less starting Thursday.

SAN ANTONIO – Arthur Dukes was first in line Tuesday morning at the Claude Black Community Center to get free help filing his federal income taxes. This year, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program has gone curbside. “This year, we will be preparing tax returns by drop-off or email,” said Christine Serda with the City of San Antonio Department of Human Services, which helps sponsor and manage the program. Instead of the usual 19 or more sites, VITA is set up this year at nine locations. The program helped residents claim nearly $16 million in earned income tax credits last year, according to Serda.
