SAN ANTONIO – A 40-year-old man was killed in a rollover crash Wednesday on the city's Northwest Side that brought morning commute traffic on Interstate 10 East to a crawl for miles.

Police said Robert Perryman was involved in a fender bender on Interstate 10 and Loop 1604 around 6 a.m., when he sped from the scene on the frontage road of I-10 until he crashed his 1996 Mercury Marquis near DeZavala Road.

"(He was traveling) at a high rate of speed, he was on the access road, lost control and rolled back onto the main highway and was hit by an additional vehicle," said Officer Loy Garcia of the San Antonio Police Department.

Perryman was ejected from his car, police said. He was transported to University Hospital, where he died.

Traffic on Interstate 10 East from Camp Bullis to DeZavala roads was brought to a standstill for several hours.
