Hundreds of online complaints have led to a class-action lawsuit against Proctor & Gamble’s Old Spice deodorant.

Consumers are reporting severe rashes and burns relating to the Old Spice Lionpride and Arctic Force High Endurance deodorants.

Rodney Colley, a man from Virginia, is the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit, which claims the Old Spice products are defective. According to court documents Colley stated that he experienced immediate side effects after switching to Old Spice deodorant.

"A small number of men may experience irritation due to alcohol sensitivity, a common ingredient across virtually all deodorant products. For men who have experienced a reaction to a deodorant, an antiperspirant may be a better option because they have a different formulation," Usatoday.com quoted Damon Jones, a spokesman for Proctor & Gamble, as saying.

Jones was quick to dispel any claims about burns. “They are essentially skin reactions some people have that can be caused by a broad variety of factors or ingredients,” he said.

The Consumer Affairs website has more than 160 reviews of Old Spice and only one star based on 85 ratings.

A person identified as Clare from Cincinnati, posted pictures of her chemical burns on consumeraffairs.com in February. “After two days of using this product, I developed extremely painful chemical burns under my left arm… Proctor and Gamble hasn’t responded to my emails either, which is really unfortunate” Clare posted.
