Middle Schooler Robbed At Bus Stop

Thief Threatened Girl, 13, With Knife, Took Cell Phone

SAN ANTONIO – A 13-year-old girl told police she was robbed Tuesday morning as she waited for a school bus outside of a San Antonio Independent School District middle school.

The incident happened around 7:15 a.m. at Mark Twain Middle School located in the 2400 Block of San Pedro.

SAISD spokeswoman Leslie Price said the victim is not a student at Twain but she does catch a bus to Tafolla Middle School from there every morning.

According to Price, typically there are several other kids waiting for busses at Twain but the girl was dropped off earlier than normal Tuesday so her mom could get to work on time, leaving the girl all alone.

The victim told police a man in his 30s or 40s, wearing a black t-shirt and jeans approached her and demanded money. When she told the guy she didn't have any cash, he took her phone and left.

While the suspect claimed to have a knife, he reportedly never showed it, the girl told police.

Price said school officials will inform parents Tuesday night about the incident with a recorded phone message. The district has also stepped up police patrols in the area.

Price said school officials have talked to the girl and her mother and let them know that she, and any other student waiting for the bus that finds themselves alone, can wait inside the school until more students arrive.
