Jeans parties latest shop-at-home trend

Consumers can buy designer jeans at discounts through home parties

SAN ANTONIO – This is not your mother's Tupperware party.

Instead Jenna Hawley's guests are enjoying wine, girl talk and a full-length mirror where they can check out every pair ofĀ blinged-outĀ jeans they try on.

ThisĀ is the latest trend in at-home shopping parties:Ā designer jeans.Ā The company behind this one is Utah-based www.vaultdenim.com.

"It's fun!" said guest Ā Laurie Galloway. "It sure beats going to a department store or boutique."

Helping Hawley throw the party in her living room is the local district's sales representative, Kim Siebert www.vaultdenim.com/kimsiebert.

"They've kind of cut out the middle man by allowing us as reps to go into homes to use homes as a store to distribute the jeans we carry," she said.

The inventory is the overstocks or last season's jeans that Vault Denim buys from wholesalers.Ā  They are the same jeans shoppers find in stores for $100, $200 or even more.

But party shoppers can get them at deep discounts, roughly half of retail.

Jeans of all styles, washes and sizes are brought to the host's house where guests and try and buy on the spot.Ā  The company also has its own line of jeans, including children, plus sizes and men's jeans.

Sierbert said guests like the relaxed atmosphere.

"They always say, 'How do I look in these?' That's the number one question you always get," she said.

When it comes to your booty, it seems it's easier to ask a friend's honest opinion over that of a sales clerk.

"You know when you try on jeans, it's embarrassing, you don't know how they look," said guest Sheena Edwards. "You have your friends to ask, 'How do they look?'"

The new twist on an old concept seems to be a perfect fit for busy women because it combines three important elements.

"Shopping, wine, friends," Edwards said. "A girl's three favorite things."
