Former teachers' aide sentenced in sex case

Rogelio Ruiz pleaded no contest to indecency charges

SAN ANTONIO – Before Rogelio Ruiz was sentenced to prison after pleading no contest to indecency with a child charges, the mother of one of his victims shouted a warning.

"He's going to get at children. He's not going to stop. You can't stop him from getting at children," the woman told the court.

Ruiz admitted fondling 3rd- and 4th-grade students at Franz Elementary School between 2004 and 2007.

He was arrested in November 2010 after two students made outcries -- one to her parents, another to police.

Before he was sentenced, Ruiz apologized to the families and asked to be placed on probation.

"I am so sorry that I caused problems in their lives through my actions and I am very deeply sorry for what I have done," Ruiz said.

The victim's mother responded, telling the judge, "I want him in prison and I don't want him out ... ever!"

District Judge Philip Kazen sentenced Ruiz to 18 years in prison as part of a plea bargain.
