Cameras catch woman stealing from store

A camera in Brittan's House clothing shop was recording as a woman stuffed a pair of shorts into a bag, then left the store without paying.

SAN ANTONIO – After being open for just more than a year, Brittan's House owner Jessica Lowery said they have had to deal with a number of shoplifters.

In November, they installed cameras, but Lowery said people continue to steal.

"They are doing this all the time," said Lowery. "They have to be because they are really good at it."

On Wednesday, Lowery and the three other owners at Brittan's House caught a woman stealing a pair of $89 Miss Me shorts.

The act was captured on their surveillance cameras. The woman was shown dropping some shorts on the floor. She takes a look around, puts one pair in her bag and the other back on the table.

However, in this case, Lowery said they recognized her and called her.

"I gave her a call and I let her know that we did have her on video tape and knew that she had taken them," said Lowery. "And, she hesitated at first and then said, 'okay.'"

Lowery told the woman if she didn't bring the shorts back within the hour, they would press charges.

The woman did return the shorts, but was confronted by a police officer.

Lowery said she released the video to KSAT 12, not only to show people that they are serious about catching shoplifters, but also to warn other retailers in the area that someone they know could be stealing from them.

"The case that happened today, I have special ordered things for her," Lowery said. "I had her name. I had her phone number. We're friends on Facebook. That still doesn't deter people, which is really sad."
