"Oh. We are very proud," said one Kerrville resident. "The whole town is proud of him."

Residents at the watch party said they are not only proud that former Tivy High School football player is now a Heisman recipient, but he's also making history, becoming the first freshman to win the top honors.

"It's crazy that he won it," said Jesse Lujan, a Kerrville resident. "He's only a freshman."

Also part of the hometown crowd was Manziel's former teammate from high school, Robert Martinez.

Martinez said he was especially proud hearing the new Heisman recipient thank his former coaches at Tivy High School in Kerrville.

"It just shows you who he is," said Martinez. "He hasn't forgotten where he came from. He still thinks about us and that is just great to know."

Jesse Lujan said he came out Wing King on Saturday for his son, Jesse, who also played with Manziel in 2009.

"I'm just thrilled to death that this kid has won it," said Lujan. "He deserves it. He's a great player and maybe he'll win again next year."
