Matthew Taylor Mays, 20, accused of fracturing infant's skull, legs

SAN ANTONIO – Matthew Taylor Mays, 20, is charged with intentionally or knowingly injuring a 4-month-old boy on the morning of Sept. 13.

According to an arrest affidavit, the child was admitted to Methodist Children's Hospital that day with a fractured skull and fractures to both legs.

In a statement to police, the child's mother said Mays initially told her that the boy fell off of a bed. She said Mays later changed the story saying he dropped the boy on the kitchen floor while making the baby a bottle.

However, the affidavit states that a doctor told the investigating officer that the child's injuries were not consistent with those scenarios and were likely caused by physical abuse 3 to 4 hours before the baby was admitted to the hospital, when the baby was in Mays' care.

The boy has since recovered from his injuries.
