SAN ANTONIO – A Northside ISD middle school teacher has been put on leave following a complaint that she forced students to chew gum that had previously been chewed by someone else.

NISD spokesman Pascual Gonzalez says the choir teacher at Vale Middle School had a practice of confiscating gum from students and keeping it in a container.

On Monday, she reportedly caught two girls chewing gum and had them take some of the used gum from the container and chew it.

The parents of those students complained and the situation was investigated by administrators.

The teacher, who has been with the district for 3 years, has been placed on administrative leave. She faces discipline ranging from reprimand to termination.
