Maverick Music Fest brings fresh sound to SA

Festival expands to 2 days

San Antonio is again becoming a destination for live music, as the annual Maverick Music Festival grows in popularity.

Now in its second year, the festival, which kicked off Friday, has grown from one to two days and includes more than three dozen bands playing on three separate stages at La Villita.

"Last year was amazing. It sold out in advance," said Faith Radle, one of the festival's organizers. "We were amazed at the turn out, so this year, we wanted to grow it and expand it to a full weekend and people are really hungry for this thing in San Antonio. We haven't had a festival like this. SXSW people are always driving up to Austin, and, now, we've got our own thing."

The 2014 lineup includes bands ranging from indie rock to hip-hop groups, including Phantogram, Psychedelic Furs and Candlebox, among others.

Tickets are $60 at the gate per day.
