Customer slashes Sonic employee with box cutter

Cutting stems from possible affair

SAN ANTONIO – The scene at a fast-food restaurant turned violent Sunday as a server and customer exchanged words before the customer pulled out a box cutter.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. at the Sonic Drive-In near the intersection of Marbach Road and Horal Drive on the city's far West Side.

According to police, the altercation stemmed from a relationship the server may have been engaged in with the customer's wife.

Police said the suspect and his wife arrived at the restaurant in separate cars.

The suspect and employee exchanged words, and the suspect pulled a box cutter and slashed the employee across the abdomen.

The suspect then fled in a black Ford Mustang to his home near the intersection of Welch and Jamaica roads, where police were waiting with guns drawn.

Police took the man into custody, and he is now facing charges of evading arrest and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, but it expected to be OK.
