Mother of Kirby victim wants killer charged with murder

Raquel Ramos: I didn't know the gun was loaded

KIRBY, Texas – A Kirby woman who fatally shot her boyfriend Friday morning said his death was accident, but the victim's family believes otherwise.

Raquel Ramos, 43, was arrested for manslaughter after she picked up a loaded shotgun and fatally shot Raymond Cantu, 37.

Ramos said she didn't know the gun was loaded. Cantu's family doesn't believe her story.

"I want her charged with murder because she killed my son it wasn't an accident," said Helen Ramirez, Cantu's mother. "My son was scared of her, and he would give her a gun that's loaded? That's not true."

Kirby police said the case is still under investigation and the manslaughter charge reflects the statement that Ramos gave to them when she was questioned Friday.

Police said depending on the results of their investigation, Ramos' charge could be upgraded to murder or reduced.
