Two brothers killed in West Side shooting

Police say man shot, killed victims during confrontation

SAN ANTONIO – Two brothers are dead after an early morning shooting on San Antonio's West Side.

Police say the shootings happened after a confrontation around 1 a.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Rivas Street.

Investigators say the shooter and the victims were involved in a disturbance.

Police say the shooter told them he went to his car, pulled a gun and fired in self-defense.

The victims' sister, Laura Diaz, said her brothers were trying to break up a fight between two men when the shooting happened.

She identified the brothers as 50-year-old Arturo Muniz and 48-year-old Rafael Muniz.

Diaz says her brothers died in a confrontation in which they were not involved.

"All of a sudden I just saw them run off the truck and they ran to the neighbor's house. They were trying to be good Samaritans because they saw a fight break loose," said Diaz.

Investigators say one victim died at the scene and the other died at the hospital.

"They were wonderful brothers, wonderful sons, loving daddies. (They) raised their five kids on their own," Diaz said.

She says the worst part is that her mother watched as her sons died.

"The only thing that kind of warms her up or consoles her is the fact that they turned around and they yelled at her, 'Mom, I love you,'" said Diaz.

Police say the shooting is under investigation.
