Police discover chop shop at suspect's home, business

SAPD: Jose Angel Guzman, 48, accused of running chop shop

A Southwest Side man identified as Jose Angel Guzman, 48, has been arrested in connection with the alleged discovery of stolen car parts at his home and place business.

In an arrest affidavit, San Antonio police said the arrest came after an investigation in vehicle thefts that had been going on since at least February 2014.

The affidavits stated that investigators obtained warrants and searched Guzman's home in July, then his business in the 300 block of Price Avenue, in September.

They said they found parts from stolen vehicles at both locations. The affidavit stated that detectives found a stolen box trailer at his home which contained parts from numerous stolen cars. At his business, they said they found the hood of a $46,000 tow truck.

The affidavit stated that Guzman admitted to dismantling the tow truck and parting it out.

Police obtained a warrant for his arrest in January, but Guzman was taken into custody on Monday.

He was booked into jail on two counts of vehicle theft.
