Generator sparks house fire on city's North Side

Gas tank spills onto generator, sparks fire

SAN ANTONIO – A generator is to blame for a North Side house fire that left behind thousands of dollars in damage.

Fire crews responded to the corner of Neer Avenue and Greenhill Pass Thursday night around 7:15 p.m.

Officials at the scene said the homeowner told them he was using generators for power because he did not have electricity in the home.

A plastic gas tank that was sitting on a generator fell and the fuel ignited and spread to a wall. Firefighters were able to quickly put out the flames but not before the fire caused about $45,000 in damages to the home and its contents.

The homeowner left the scene for a little while before the San Antonio Fire Department could get him assistance with the Red Cross, but he did return later with some family members.

He was not injured in the fire.
