SAN ANTONIO – Several East Side streets turned into crime scenes as three pedestrians were hit and several cars damaged at the hands of what police have said was a man on a rampage.
The rampage began Wednesday around 5:30 p.m., when San Antonio police officers received several calls for pedestrians who had been struck by a driver in the Sunset Station area.
Police said Manuel Garcia, 40, stole a four-door sedan and intentionally hit pedestrians, including Samuel White, 53, and Patrick Moore, 58, who both died as a result of their injuries.
Jeannea Kucinski says her brother, Mario Abalos Jr., was also walking home that night when Garcia struck him with his car.
"Next thing you know, this guy in this silver car just ran into him and then he got up again and he hit him one more time and he tried to hit him a third time, but this time, my brother jumped out of the way and thankfully he did, because I don't think he would be here today," said Kucinski.
Abalos was the only pedestrian to survive. He was rushed to University hospital.
"He had many, many fractures and it was horrible to see him that way," Kucinski said.
Kucinski and her family is still trying to understand what they call a senseless crime.
"I don't know any human being that would just randomly hit people. How can they live with themselves?" asked Kucinski.
It uncertain how long Abalos will be in the hospital but Kuckinsi wants to make sure her brother's attacker is locked up for good.
"He should be charged with the maximum sentencing, including murder and attempted murder, because he attempted to murder my brother," Kucinski said.
According to San Antonio police, Garcia will be charged with robbery, and could face several other charges including murder once homicide detectives consult with the District Attorney's Office.
