SAN ANTONIO – A man accused of intentionally driving into a group of pedestrians and killing two of them has been charged with capital murder in an indictment handed down Monday by a Bexar County grand jury.

Manuel Michael Garcia, 40, was arrested Feb. 18 after police said he carjacked a woman at Aransas Avenue and Hackberry Street on the city's East Side.

Garcia then intentionally drove into several pedestrians and a cyclist, investigators said. Two men, Patrick Moore and Samuel White, were killed, and others were hurt.

Garcia tried to flee after crashing the stolen vehicle at North Cherry and East Commerce, but was held down by several witnesses until police arrived.

Garcia is facing charges of capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is awaiting trial.
