Armed robbery, 2 accidents keep SA police busy

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police were kept busy Friday night into early Saturday morning. The following is a brief synopsis of what happened during the overnight hours.

A man who police believe may have had too much to drink was hit by a pickup truck Friday night on the city's Southeast Side.

According to police, the man was walking down the sidewalk on New Braunfels Avenue near Aransas Street just after 9 p.m. when he tripped and fell into the street. A truck traveling on that road hit him, police said. The man was taken to the San Antonio Military Medical Center in stable condition. There is no word on if the man will face any charges.

Then around 10:15 p.m., a Hispanic man walked into the Exxon Mobile gas station off Interstate 35 near Southcross with a sawed-off shotgun and demanded an undisclosed amount of cash from the clerk. Once the man grabbed the cash he took off. According to witnesses he jumped into what police believe is a black Expedition that was waiting for him. No one was injured.

Finally at midnight, a woman and her 3-year-old child were taken to Methodist Children's Hospital after the car they were in slammed head-on into another vehicle on the city's Northwest Side on Babcock Road near Prue Road.

According to investigators, the mother tried speeding through a yellow light on Babcock when another car traveling on Prue pulled into the intersection and hit her car. Both the woman and her child were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the driver of the other car, was also taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
