Man charged in fatal shooting of wife on Christmas Eve 2013

Ramiro Campos, 57, charged in connection with death of Virginia Campos

SAN ANTONIO – A 57-year-old man was arrested late Wednesday night in connection with the shooting death of his wife on Christmas Eve 2013.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office said a grand jury on Wednesday indicted Ramiro Campos on a murder charge.

His wife, Virginia Campos, was found with a gunshot wound to the head inside their home on New Sulphur Springs Road.

Deputies also found Ramiro Campos with a gunshot wound. Investigators initially labeled the case as a murder and attempted suicide. New details revealed that another relative shot Ramiro Campos in response to the homicide.

"The weapon that was used to kill his wife was not initially found at the scene," BCSO spokesman James Keith said. "Typically in a murder-suicide, (with) the person who commits suicide, the weapon is in close proximity."

The other relative was not indicted, Keith said.
