SAN ANTONIO – John Hoyt said he's still shocked that his son, Zachary Hoyt, 25, won't be coming home. Zachary was stabbed several times in a breezeway an at apartment complex in the 12700 block of Bandera Road around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Bexar County sheriff’s deputies have since arrested and charged Stephen Grandy, 19, with his death.
"When I initially found out, it was through a friend of my son’s that called me and was crying and asked about my son being stabbed. I said, 'What are you talking about?’ I hadn’t heard anything about it,” said Hoyt.
News of Zachary's death was spreading on Facebook. John said he immediately called law enforcement to find out what was going on.
"Very aggravating. It’s like a suspense thing and thinking, 'Gee, I hope it really ain’t my son. I think somebody made a mistake or something’,” Hoyt said, “It’s going through your mind-a lot of things are going to go through your mind and saying, 'How could this be’?”
Hoyt said at 7:30 p.m. Saturday investigators confirmed his worst fears. Now he wants to know more about the seconds that led up to his son’s death.
The victim’s ex-girlfriend told investigators that Zachary showed up at her apartment uninvited, but his father said that’s hard for him to understand.
"Doesn’t even make sense, not when he's been so happy to be away from her,” Hoyt said. "My son was a victim and he didn’t deserve to die like that.”
