Man accused of kidnapping 7-year-old wanted by SAPD

Child safe, escaped shortly after kidnapping

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department is looking for a man suspected of kidnapping a 7-year-old girl Thursday night on the city's North Side.

The girl's father, Stephen Gonzalez, said his daughter was taking the dog to use the bathroom around 8:15 p.m., when the suspect grabbed her and put her into an SUV.

The child was able to escape shortly after the kidnapping and is safe, police said.

Gonzalez said the incident at an apartment complex near Bulverde and Redland Road was caught on camera.

"They had video of him getting in the pool with everybody, and he was like stalking kids in the apartment complex. And then he just grabbed her," Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez said that parents need to be on the lookout for the man because, "you're not safe anywhere, really."

The man is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He may be driving a small, newer model, maroon or red SUV.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to the call the SAPD Special Victims Unit at 210-207-2313.
