Border Patrol bust net marijuana, cocaine worth $1.3 million

2 separate busts leads to discovery of drugs

LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Laredo Port of Entry seized a significant amount of marijuana and cocaine with an estimated street value of over $1.3 million in two separate busts.
The drugs were found in the past five days.

“Our CBP officers face many challenges daily while facilitating lawful trade,” said Alberto Flores. “CBP’s layers of enforcement such as the non-intrusive imaging system, canine and the officer’s experience play an important role in the intercepting of these dangerous narcotics.”

The cocaine was found on Saturday when an officer referred a bus for a non-intrusive inspection.

With the help of a non-intrusive imaging system, canine and physical inspection officers discovered 20 packages containing 53 pounds of alleged cocaine hidden in the bus.

The other seizure occurred on Wednesday when an officer referred a tractor-trailer hauling a shipment of frozen avocado pulp for a secondary inspection.

That led to the discovery of 3,003 packages of alleged marijuana.

Both seizures combined have an estimated street value of $1,357,854.
