BCSO identifies 'transient' woman whose remains were found burned in April

BCSO: Norma Pacheco, 39, identified as woman found 'badly burned' April 4

SAN ANTONIO – A woman whose remains were found burned beyond recognition in far west Bexar County in April has now been identified.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office identified the woman as 39-year-old Norma Pacheco on Wednesday, which is a week after BCSO released a composite sketch created by a Texas Department of Public Safety forensic artist.

On April 4, a passerby found the "badly burned, badly decomposed" remains near Government Canyon State Natural Area.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said they had hoped the remains were that of Andreen McDonald, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances Feb. 28.

Salazar said deputies recently received a break in the case after several tips were sent to investigators.

Pacheco's death has been ruled as a homicide, and the investigation now turns to finding those responsible for her death, Salazar said.

Salazar said Pacheco's family described her as being "transient in nature" and as a "drifter."

No one close to Pacheco had reported her missing, and investigators believe her body had been in the 1300 block of Highway 211 North for a "couple of weeks due to the state of composition," Salazar said.

Salazar said investigators do not have many details and is asking the public to take a close look at Pacheco's photo.
