The Salvation Army deploying to Houston for flood relief

SAN ANTONIO – A team from The Salvation Army of San Antonio is headed to Houston to help provide relief to those impacted from the severe weather of last week, according to a press release.

A small team of staff and volunteers are leaving the organization’s headquarters, located at 521 West Elmira Street, around 5 a.m. on Monday.

The press release said they expect to be in Houston for roughly a weeklong deployment, preparing and serving meals to first responders and residents that were impacted by the severe flooding.

Disaster units from other parts of the state have already begun meal service in Walker County since last Thursday. Walker County is about an hour north of Houston.

Local officials have since requested more help and the district office was advised to send additional units, which includes the San Antonio delegation, the press release said.
