SAN ANTONIO – UTSA introduced its Rowdy Cannon on Saturday during the Roadrunners home football game at the Alamodome and the reviews were not great on social media.
The cannon was to be fired off at kickoff, the start of the second half and during the Come and Take It tradition.

But fans criticized the fact that the cannon itself did not fire, but a box near the cannon was used to fire off a firework instead.

Some UTSA supporters asked for fans to give the cannon tradition some time and said that it's a process between the university and the Alamodome. The cannon was built in part with money raised from university donors.
Hey UTSA fans. Remember this was first time the cannon was used. Yesterday was a test The box was used for testing purposes. This was a 2 plus year process with city and Alamodome. It was a planned test. It’s gonna be ok.

I'm going to hold off on this one for now. I can't jump anyone based on a cannon weight comment by ESPN talking heads. Cannon weights are not generally their forte. Reserving judgement until I get more info.

Much like the ancient Texans rode into the Alamo on a giant fake Trojan horse to fool the Aztecs, we have been fooled to believe this cannon was real.. Are we doing this history thing right? #fakecannon #historybuff pic.twitter.com/QuoB2883Zd

UTSA recap so far tonight:

New cannon doesn't fire but box in front of it does.
Field goal horn sounds for missed field goal.
Cheerleaders run with flags to celebrate missed field goal.
Only thing left to find out is if Come and Take it Flag is right side up.
